#5WomenArtists
#5WomenArtists project is an annual project that NMWA has undertaken since 2016 to raise the profile of women artists. Through social media, the project asks a question "Can you name five women artists?", to make the public aware of the fact that women artists have not been treated equally compared to their male counterparts in the history of art, are still undervalued and underrepresented in museums, galleries, auctions..
More than 1,800 museums and other cultural organizations in 57 countries, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Gallery, has participated in the project. Hundreds of organizations and thousands of people had posted on social media with the hashtag #5WomenArtists in response to the above question, providing an opportunity for a global dialogue on gender equality issue in the art world.
